Avada Environmental
Contamination Experts
Contaminants
Avada, an environmental consultancy with a particular specialisation in land contamination remediation, is adept at managing an extensive array of contaminant types. These pollutants exhibit a broad spectrum of characteristics and consist of different materials such as metals, oils and tars, and solvents. Our expertise is not limited to chemical substances; we also address biological challenges, such as dealing with problematic invasive species that pose a threat to native ecosystems. In our commitment to environmental stewardship, we strive to tailor our approaches to effectively handle each unique contaminant type, acknowledging their varying impact on both the land and its surrounding habitats.
Hydrocarbons
Avada specialises in tackling hydrocarbon contamination, a common environmental challenge stemming from leaks of substances like kerosene, diesel, and petrol into our ecosystem and properties. These pollutants present a substantial health risk when concentrations exceed safe levels.
Despite the complexity of fully restoring contaminated areas due to factors like hydrocarbons getting trapped in soil pores, our skilled team is well-equipped to manage this issue. Notably, most hydrocarbon constituents can biodegrade, simplifying their remediation compared to other pollutants. Trust Avada for your comprehensive solution to hydrocarbon contamination remediation.
Metals
At Avada, we’re well-versed in handling sites contaminated with metals and metalloids, often simply referred to as ‘metals’. These sites require prompt and effective remediation due to the presence of common contaminants such as lead, chromium, arsenic, zinc, cadmium, copper, and mercury.
Though many remediation technologies used for organic contaminants can also address metal contamination, it’s crucial to note that metals are not susceptible to chemical or biological degradation. That’s where our expertise comes in. For smaller sites, we typically resort to excavation to treat metal contaminants in soils. When it comes to groundwater, we utilise cutting-edge solutions like pump-and-treat systems, monitored natural attenuation of metals, or we alter the groundwater geochemistry to immobilise the metal contaminants, preventing their migration to receptors.
Other Inorganics
At Avada, we operate across a multitude of sites where inorganic contaminants may lurk. These include but are not limited to artillery and small arms impact areas, battery disposal sites, burn pits, and chemical disposal areas. We also manage marine sediments tainted by pollutants, disposal wells and leach fields, electroplating and metal finishing shops, and firefighting training zones.
Our expertise extends to landfills and burial pits, leaking collection systems and sanitary lines, storage tanks with leaks, radioactive and mixed waste disposal areas, and oxidation ponds or lagoons. We also service areas like paint stripping and spray booths, sandblasting zones, surface impoundments, and vehicle maintenance areas.
Invasive Species
Avada specialises in tackling invasive plant species, with our primary goal being the restoration of the land to its native ecosystem. This process often involves the careful removal of non-native plants and the reintroduction of native species.
Our approach begins with the accurate identification of invasive plants. Once identified, we devise a comprehensive management plan detailing the most effective removal and replanting methods.
Upon removal, we reintroduce native species through restoration planting, preventing the resurgence of invasive species and reinstating the native ecosystem.
Emerging Contaminants
In an era of swiftly changing regulations, Avada stands at the forefront of contamination remediation, crafting strategies and evaluating options with precision. As a specialist in the field, we hold a distinct perspective on the crossroads of emerging environmental contaminants.
Our commitment is to deliver advanced yet practical solutions. From pinpointing and sampling per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), to devising and implementing remediation strategies for microplastics and potential endocrine disruptors from pharmaceutical and personal care products, we bring our expertise to every challenge.
